CIAT Products at the Forefront of Revolutionary Weleda Warehouse HVAC Design
Weleda, a leading name in natural health and wellbeing products, has used CIAT heat pumps to embrace innovation in temperature control at its new warehouse facility. CIAT is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
Faced with the challenge of efficiently managing a diverse range of stock worth more than £1 million, Weleda sought a sustainable solution that would address both heating and cooling requirements throughout the year.
The unique demands of storing valuable stock necessitated a forward-thinking approach to heating and cooling. After thorough consideration of various options, Weleda opted for a first-of-its-kind solution proposed by HVAC designers the Bruce Boucher Consultancy (tBBC), using CIAT heat pumps.
The HVAC design specialists collaborated with AFS Ltd (Air Filtration Solutions Ltd) and recommended a reverse cycle air-to-water heat pump system. The key components of this innovative solution include the cutting-edge CIAT air-to-water heat pump, an industrial air heater, and a pre-insulated piping system.
The air heaters offer adjustable nozzles for optimal air distribution in high-ceiling warehouses. When combined with a nominal 120 kW reverse cycle heat pump featuring four scroll compressors from CIAT, this solution provides efficient heating and cooling for the open warehouse.
A pre-insulated piping system helps to ensure minimal heat losses and efficient performance. This low-cost piping installation connects 95% of the internal piping, delivering long-term energy savings, low heat loss, and a zero-maintenance solution for Weleda's warehouse.
Bruce Boucher, of the Bruce Boucher Consultancy, emphasised the importance of a well-designed and managed installation, adding, "This is a great example of using experienced HVAC designers, carefully selected well-proven products, and a trusted installation team.
“Although we in the UK have a long heating season, winter sunshine through the part glazed roof can have an immediate need for cooling, specifically if you carry a huge stock of an expensive product. Therefore, you need a quick response to space temperature changes. The CIAT heat pump has a small built-in buffer to enable rapid temperature change, so this design delivers on all fronts.”
“We are delighted that CIAT was chosen to provide the high quality, high efficiency products to deliver a solution which matched Weleda’s commitment to the environment,” said Oliver Sanders, Commercial Director, CIAT UK and Ireland.
The CIAT heat pump solution not only ensures a controlled environment for Weleda's extensive stock but also contributes to long-term environmental benefits. CIAT heat pumps support Carrier’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) goal of helping its customers avoid more than one gigaton of GHG emissions by 2030.
The system will be closely monitored 24/7 to optimise performance, with adjustments to flow and space temperatures made as needed.
